Where is your God? What is He doing?

While it is important to have answers for difficult questions, it is even more important to point to the Word of God for the answer.

The frequently asked question, “Where is your God?” is answered in Psalm 115:3, “Our God is in heaven...” This simple, yet profound statement not only answers where God is, but reveals what He is doing. The same verse continues, “...He does whatever He pleases.”

This question is often phrased, “Where is God when evil and suffering happen on this earth?” This Psalmist sheds some light when he writes, “The heaven, even the heavens are the Lord’s, but the earth He has given to the children of men.”

The conclusion is that God is in heaven, He gave humanity this earth, and we mess it up. We must not — truly we cannot — blame God, rather, the one thing we ought to do is give God the glory. Let us worship Him because of his lovingkindness and mercy, because of His patience toward us. The Psalm closes with instructions to us who are alive, in verse 17-18, "The dead do not praise the LORD, nor any who go down into silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD!"
